Trini Gyal to Stay Away From

They say finding a good man is hard to find, will let me tell you this- finding a good woman is even harder. We women bash men to the fullest! Always saying men are dogs and they lie so much, but come on the truth so women LIE BETTER and HIDE BETTER than men. Some women have ABSOLUTELY NO CONSCIENCE. Not to mention women who love to be right- admitting they were wrong is the last thing they would do. Expect some secrets to be taken to their grave. My last blog made some of my male readers feel victimized, well let’s talk about some Trini women to stay away from.

  1. Red Woman: forever on the top of the list. A couple blogs back I wrote refuting this statement that “The Only Good Red Thing is a Dollar”, however by popular demand ALL man seem to think red woman is from the Devil’s spawn. Ladies don’t take offense I’m on the fence about this one- I know some relll faithful and loyal red women. Red women forever intimidating men that’s why most men say “red woman bad” a few bad apples spoil the bunch. Oh well :/
  2. Every man is your cousin or brother. I get your family big but EVERYYYY man you liming with is your cousin or brother so? Girl bye! I can’t understand if this person is your relative and both of yall going to watch a movie alone or going a party/clubbing together and is level ‘bend ova’ and ‘stab out’. We know Jerome ain’t your bro or cousin unless yall about that Lannister life (shout out to all the Game of Thrones fans).
  3. You in every party and clubbing every week. This excludes the working ladies out there, big ups to you cause you working and spoiling yourself. But to the females who works nowhere and draws no pay- I cannot understand how this is even possible for you to be at every party and club, with a new outfit every week, hair well done, nails freshly did and accessories on fleek. Where you get the money from? You got a sugar daddy? Do you not have goals? Ambition? Don’t you go to school if you ain’t working? That ain’t cute
  4. Social Media whores. Ahem! Every pic is a half naked pic and the hastag be like #BeachLife #ImaMermaid #IslandLife #LifeInABikini ohh my godddd -_- no bitch you pimpin your body for likes and tusty man comments. Not saying don’t feel yourself but all your pics your breasts outside, you bending over backwards and all kinda mechanics to get the angle to make your ass cheeks look healthy. I rel can’t
  5. TWERK GIRL! Your snaps and IG vids are of you twerking… I need not say anything else.
  6. The “Comps” possee. You always wanna be in every party but forever asking for comps, after freeness is ….. And so these party promoters take advantage of some of these easy birds, if you want comps- open your legs and some of these girls do this shit just to get a pic from Triniscene or LimeTT. Steups.
  7. Its Complicated. Okay so he’s cute, but when he asks if you have a bf your response is “I’m in the process of a breakup”, “its complicated” or “I’m so unhappy”. Always a victim in your relationships. Stop being a thot, your man takes you out and showers you with love but your insecurity driving you to gain the attention of other men.
  8. You have over 4000 fb friends but nobody tracking you. Hmmm these girls right here, forever chaining up men bout you’re the only guy I talk to. Girl please homeboy stay waiting in your chats and those ticks remain grey and you constantly online. Who you fooling?
  9. A password and lock for every app. Your gallery have a lock, phone calls- lock, whatsapp- lock, settings-lock, alarm-lock. Ummmmm seriously? What you hiding so? Thot files?
  10. Every DJ in your contacts list. Why you need to have salty on speed dial? Is shout out you longing for? Free entry to clubs? Yuh wa speed?
  11. Leggings and crop top. You going to the cinema and wearing leggings and all the tiger outside. You don’t feel cold? Sun don’t burn you? You don’t feel disrespected when men be like “Oh god gyal.. that thing printing out”
  12. I only have guy friends cause girls like too much bacchanal. LMAO thisss girl, I can’t. If they’re your friends why can all of them say they got the beat already? Why you in the middle of a parry? Smh
  13. Girls who tracking people man….. mmmmm Jesus take the wheel! These thots be ever bold face. But that’s a separate blog by itself. Stop being willing side hoes. It don’t look good.

The truth is I can go on and on about this, so many guys sent me some of these girls to stay away from, but this is just a few. Big ups to Runako, Tiffano, Kore, Kiah, Nisha, Bjorn etc. for having opinions on these. NO OFFENSE to anyone. Written in Trini slang.

Netflix and Chill?

In my previous blog I mentioned that “Netflix and Chill” is a classic date for a man hoe. However, this phenomenon has become increasingly popular. So much so that countless memes are being made about it. First, let’s define what exactly is Netflix and Chill.

Netflix- this is an on-demand streaming service, most movies and TV series (once you got premium *cough cough*)

Chill– an urban slang to mean, hanging out or liming.

“Netflix and Chill”

You see why it bothers me that these two words when joined together can have a completely different meaning? I just don’t get it

Is it that this new generation is settling for going straight to the bedroom and not even bothering with the courting stage. I may be naive to that fact, but I believe in chivalry. Flowers are cute, whatever happened to a love note or a card? Is that not a thing anymore? Is taking a girl out on a date to dinner or a stroll in the park too much effort to give? Let’s not forget how things used to be when pictures were still black and white- we actually respected ourselves.

I can’t see how its a date to tell a smallie “link me in 51 Thursday”, how are you having meaningful discourse and sharing likes and dislikes when she’s “cocking right up” and you stabbing from behind. Or the fact that taking a girl straight to your house, with the low lights, horror movie (cause females be acting jumpy), and 5 mins into the movie hormones raging cause you’re not speaking to each other but your bodies doing the talking.

Ladies, this isn’t bashing the guys- but its both parties, what you allow a man to do is exactly what he’ll do to you. A guy knows which tree to bark up on. Cheap prices attract many customers. The baddest man hoe isn’t gonna come around a girl who has her head on, with a high level of self-respect and approach her with “Yo Tasha, wa u for? Netflix and chill awa?” No… Who are you attracting?

The Trini “Man Hoe”

According to the Urban Dictionary a “manwhore” can be described as “the male equivalent of a slut”. For the purpose of this being a Trini blog, I shall refer to the colloquial term “man hoe“. History has fueled the dominance of men, making it okay for men to be polygamous and sleep around while having a monogamous woman being submissive to him. Although, there has been many waves of feminism we still see this ideology being perpetuated today. The instant a girl flirts with a guys, has a fling or does anything that patriarchal society sees as unfit, she is deemed a “HOE” and is looked upon as the scum of the earth.

Recently, I’ve heard of many stories from females about guys they call a man hoe. Ladies don’t be naive, yes true love probably exist- not saying no. But in the society we live in today don’t expect to find it in the first guy who shows interest. Here are a few red flags that a guy might be a “man hoe”. Ladies I know you will relate, guys hard luck- but if it falls in your garden you know what to do.

  1. The Red Man syndrome. Fed up hear people bash “red woman” refer to my previous blog about “The Only Good Red Thing is a Dollar”. Instead of bashing the women, pay attention to some of the red skinned guys out here. Most red men who’s aware of the power their complexion takes advantage and pushes it to the limit. The arrogance is too much to take from some of you. You’re just red- not a god. Calm down.
  2. The Douglas. Lemme just tell you- I have a weakness for mixed men, most females do to that fact. From observation and experience, some of these dougla guys just love sharing the genes of the two major ethnicity, they revel in it and walk around feeling like every female wants them. But some of you are just pennywise douglas anyway and playing games with innocent women.
  3. The “so when we liming girl” type of guy. Every female you hit up is the same question, pretty sure some of you hit copy and paste in those DMs, because its always the same question.
  4. “Netflix and Chill” guys. This is my pet peeve right here. Chivalry is dead! Dead I tell you. Some guys come at you, “I on’t like crowds, I don’t like to be in public, I’m a quiet type of guy maybe we can watch Netflix and Chill?” No girlfriend, he doesn’t like crowds on a first date cause he doesn’t wanna bounce up one of his other females. On a first date you should be asked to a movie and dinner AT LEAST, not straight to the living room or bedroom to “Netflix and Chill” cause we all know that connotes to “Netflix while I beat you out”
  5. The party promoter. He promotes parties for a living… MAN HOE! Not gonna be harsh and say ALL guys who promote party bad. But guess what, he’ll flirt with every female and her 10 friends to get them to come to his party, they’ll think he wants them and you’ll look like the ass. Guess what his excuse will be that he’s “networking” and this party is for you bae, no girlfriend he’s sneaking away from you to wine on the smallie from whatsapp.
  6. I’m a good guy”. Red flag… Their introduction speech is about how good they are and faithful and not on games. He’s single because his last gf broke his heart and he hasn’t healed yet and that’s he afraid of being hurt and no girl has caught his interest – yet their IG pics getting 200+ likes and their whatsapp flooding?
  7. “Everything on fleek” kinda guy. Ladies, he takes longer than you to get dressed, he shaves every other day, he uses out half bottle of cologne in one go, each curl is precisely identical and lays in a specific way, clothing matches, accessories are being worn everyday (bands, big ass bead necklaces I never understand, watches, piercings like whoa and ANKLETS!??), gym freak to BULK up not just for health… he’s not going the extra mile for one girl, otherwise he’d have settled down by now. Feel free to disagree- my opinion.

This may not be totally true, but seeing from experience first hand and second hand has influenced these perceptions. Guys sorry for the bashing, but the next blog will be on the ladies 😉

JUDITH EVA BARSI – CHILD STAR MURDERED BY HER FATHER – CCA0105 – UPDATED 11.27.2013

Wow.. Brought me to tears. We could male a difference by paying a little more attention to signs and signals

Lighting Their Way Home

JUDITH EVA BARSI – CHILD STAR MURDERED BY HER FATHER

Judith Eva Barsi Judith Eva Barsi

As an advocate for victimized children, I know all too well that time means little.  No matter how much time has passed, a child was still taken from this world, and that child deserves to have their story told, their memory honored and their life celebrated.  So today, I ask all of you amazing people to celebrate the life of Judith Eva Barsi with me.

Judith Eva Barsi made her entrance into this world on June 6, 1978.  A star was born.  This talented little girl began her television career early at the age of 5 when she was discovered at a skating rink.  Members of a crew who were at the skating rink shooting a commercial noticed Judith’s superior skating skills.  With that, she was hired for her first commercial for Donald Duck Orange Juice, and…

To Shave or Not to Shave?

So there’s this new trend, where women are growing out their armpit hair to fight against societal views on the dominant ideology that armpit hair is unclean and very unladylike. This is also being associated with the “feminist” movement. Women all over the internet are supporting this movement and flooding social media with photos of their unshaven armpits with the handle #noshavenoshade.

I’d like to add my 2 cents… Not hating that this movement is trying to fight against the status quo.. but come on. Shaving armpit hair is hygiene, the excess and overgrown hair traps perspiration and contributes to foul scents. On top of that if your deodorant is those solid white bars, that whiteness will get caught in your hair and that’s a disturbing to see, not to mention it ruins good blouses, especially those black ones! Girl nuh uh!

On the contrary, some of these women who are about the #NoShaveArmpit train are actually shaving and waxing their legs for summer, as well as other areas such as the bikini line and arms. If you wanna fight against the essentialist views then go big or go home, refrain from shaving anything at all.

By no means am I bashing any feminists, they have their opinion on this and this is my opinion. Shaving your armpit is hygiene, not saying to shave it as soon as you see a little stubble every day but come on growing it out and looking like a cave girl with smooth legs but hairy arms or smelling foul. Um ladies sometimes we use the concept of “feminism” a bit too loosely.

Not Everything that Glitters is Gold- Physical Attractiveness Stereotype

It has been observed over the years that persons who are more “physically appealing” are perceived in a positive light than others who aren’t as fortunate. However, I put physically appealing in quotations because beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is very much subjective. John Nairaland describes this phenomena as, “physical attractiveness stereotype which is a term that psychologists use to refer to the tendency to assume that people who are physically attractive also possess other socially desirable personality traits.”

Talk about judging a book by its cover. How unfair is it to judge someone off of their physical appearance and not by their intellect or personality or even kindness and honesty of their heart.

A Beautiful Convict

A perfect example of this can be seen in the “Free Jeremy Meeks” campaign which started last year when a mugshot of a blue-eyed convicted was posted on social media. Women went crazy! Let me tell you these women completely forgot that he was arrested for possession of a firearm (which could have been used to KILL SOMEONE!!) and as a result this man’s photo went viral. Women worldwide were signing online petitions to free the infamous Jeremy Meeks. He got so much publicity (and we all know there’s no such thing as ‘BAD PUBLICITY’) that he caught the attention of many modelling agencies. The Daily Mail’s March 2015 article headlined: ‘Hot convict’ Jeremy Meeks wins modelling contract despite being behind bars.

What is wrong with society? Of course he is good-looking but does this make him less of a convict? Apparently being good-looking speaks louder than credentials and character. This also proves that good looking people aren’t necessarily the same as on the inside.

The man who spawned a thousand memes: Meeks' mugshot inspired memes (like the one above) and earned him nicknames like 'Hotty McMug Shot' and 'Mugshot McDreamy'

Physically Appealing Persons Get the Jobs

Research has shown that being physically attractive proves to be significantly effective during a job interview.

If you’re from T&T you may have heard this stereotype that flight attendants and bank employees, to be specific, are usually chosen by their looks. People who have “high colour”, mixed, tall, slim, good-looking- all socially constructed views of what defines beauty- are the one who get the job and by extension “get- through in life”.

The Media Implies this Binary Opposition

You ever wondered why the villains in movies are usually the hella ugly or scary, creepy looking ones and the heroes are fine as ever? The media are the ones who have created these ideas of what beauty is supposed to reflect, and because the media has a such a huge impact it has formed these socially constructed beliefs.

Beliefs that the attractive people are good, as opposed to the less attractive ones who are always the villains. These crucial binary oppositions play a huge role in how society stereotype the physical appearance of people. Such strong binary opposition such as: black vs white; rich vs poor; slim vs fat and good vs. evil are pervasive in many Disney movies.

 [disney_1123386c.jpg]

Why is Ursula in Black and has over-exaggerated features?

Why couldn’t Ursula be attractive as well?

Beauty is not Skin Deep

Beauty is subjective when it comes to physical appearance, however the real beauty is in someone’s mind and heart. Beauty goes beyond the skin.

It comes from a person’s integrity, loyalty and honour. It comes from the person who sees the best in even the worst person, from someone who’s kindness has no limits. Beauty is reflected by such intangible characteristics that its something not seen, but something that is felt. The ability to see beyond surface level and appreciate what the reality of someone truly represents can lead to a less biased society.

Food Culture in Trinbago.

As the saying goes, ”Tell me what you eat and I’ll show you who you are.” Food is the epitome of life, it is an art and an expression of culture and preference. In Trinidad and Tobago there is a cosmopolitan taste in food. May this be creole, Chinese, Indian and Arabian cuisine or simply fast food.

food-trinidad-callalooimg_2_1261674704

In Trinbago we’ll eat just about anything under the sun. From chicken, lamb and fish as day-to-day food to agouti, caiman, snake, iguana and monkey for the holidays and festivities. We never seem to throw caution to the wind when it comes to our stomachs. In addition, we have a wide variety of street foods, which range from pig and chicken foot souse, geera pork and the Trinidad-Indian cuisine of doubles which is usually closely accompanied by a cold apple-j. These are just some to name a few.

IMG_4026

We must give ourselves credit for being able to manipulate recipes to create even more extravagant dishes, such as chicken doubles and shrimp roti. Regardless of which culture the food originates, we Trinbagonians always embrace new foods as our taste buds have been able to accommodate just about anything. Finally, we seem to have a curiosity and taste which becomes fully attuned to all foods. Welcome to Trinidad and Tobago, the place where food is at its finest.

As a Trinbagonian food is a tangible form of expression of our culture, heritage and people.

Social Network A Medium for Communication and Ruining Relationships??

Grateful for the opportunity to be a guest blogger on Triniadvice’s blog this week 🙂

Impacts of Social Media on Relationships

facebookrelationship

Has Social Network evolved into a seemingly easier, less psychotic way to “stalk” or keep tabs on your significant other? This blog will explore how this has been happening with particular reference to Facebook.

FACEBOOK-CIVIL-UNION

A friend once mentioned that the guy she’s been dating for almost 5 months sent her a “relationship status request” on Facebook. Now this isn’t the simple “In a relationship <3” this is the “In a relationship with…..” Her excitement was uncontainable to say the least. She expressed how much she liked him and enjoyed how he’d like her photos and status and write on her wall, unlike her ex-boyfriend. With the most quizzical look on my face I contemplated if this was the “big ask” to be in a relationship, since he’d never asked her in ‘real life’. Why would she be so excited to think asking one to be in a committed and real relationship would…

Stereotypes of a UWI student

I was walking through Port-of-Spain one day and I saw one of my old friends whom I had not seen for years. We were catching up and he asked me what I was currently doing. I then replied that I now attend UWI St Augustine in my second year. When he heard I attend UWI, he automatically labelled me as a limer. I then and there had to “put him in his place” and let him know that yes I “lime” occasionally but I am not just a “typical” UWI student. I know what I want in life so therefore I balance my social life with my school life. He then tried to justify his statement by saying “well I know how allya UWI students like to lime.” That is when I grew an interest for Trinistarrfyre’s theme of her blog since I actually faced being stereotyped.

So  I am pretty sure that  everyone, at some point in their life has watched at least one movie about being at university and how students are divided into these cliché stereotypes. Being  a university student myself and experiencing the UWI “lifestyle”, it is evident that particular stereotypes are associated to a typical UWI student. Stereotypes are generalizations about a group of people where particular characteristics are ascribed to them. So you are probably wondering why does one place stereotypes on groups of people who maintain particular characteristics. According to Gordon Allport, Stereotypes are formed in order to make sense of the world that we live in. Allport suggested that humans understand better when things are categorized, as a result stereotypes are made as a form of categorization to simplify and rationalise data.

Stereotypes-588x250

Stereotypes may not always be true but when someone hears that you are a UWI student they automatically place you into one of these following stereotypes.

  1. The delinquents: This first stereotype are the students that never show up for class, never does assignments and basically the one that leaves home to go to class and never reaches. They are also the ones that encourages others not to go class as well. So my advise, if you encounter one of these, beware.cropped-d-for-delinquent-movie-poster-9999-1020429253
  2. The Card players:This is the second type of delinquent. At UWI St Augustine, you will also encounter this type of student. They are usually found in The Student Activity Center (SAC) or in the food court AKA Bangladesh. Basically all this type of student does is play All fours all day. If there was a degree on this game they would be 4.0’s.                                              SONY DSC
  3. The Feters: This type of student can be seen in nearly every fete that is being held in Trinidad. So basically they are the ones that are always tried from partying to hard but when exams come around , Party dun!                                  images
  4. Party promoters: These are the ones that throws and promotes the biggest parties and biggest “fetes”. They are usually very known around the university and anytime u see them around they always have some party to invite you to.images (1)
  5. The Participatory students: This type of student is well-rounded. They attend classes, attend seminars, research day and well basically everything. They are very involved in the student guild and are usually identified by those who create partitions, forms of protests on behalf of their student guild and may even run for President.                               UWI_PROTEST
  6. The Nerds AKA the 4.0’s: These students are the geniuses. Basically they know exactly what they are at university for. They are the ones that top the class and reads the whole text-book before the semester even starts. These are the ones that leave with  First class honors. They are the real MVP’s.images (2)

Though some of these attributes are seen in some students don’t necessarily mean that those titles define them. I mean what happened to the typical student. The student who attends class most times but sometimes just doesn’t make it because that party that they went last weekend just got the best of them. The student that plays cards sometimes but then goes class after. I’m not saying that these types of students doesn’t exist but from my point of view students of this generation aren’t so typical.

notsotypical

We are well-rounded students who actually have a balance between our social life and our School life. According to Paul Watzlawick, The self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that causes itself to be true since that expectation or label causes the person to unconsciously react to that label given. From that I think that stereotyping someone actually makes the person become that label so be carefull of what you are labeling people as because it might just come true!

“Where all that traffic does come from Daddyyyy?”- Bumpers Like Rain!

I’m not speaking about the typical connotative bumpers we “jam on” for Carnival. We’re talking bumper to fender traffic piled up on our Nation’s highways, main roads, back roads, nooks and crannies; your granddaddies took to check your grannies. STANDSTILL TRAFFIC, everywhere.

This “unplanned roadblock” began from as early as 5am exactly one week ago Monday morning, I remember waking up to finding out about endless traffic, statuses going on up Facebook one after the next about “Police checking everything” and “Traffic like mad” I had absolutely no intentions of leaving my house to be held up in traffic for menacing hours.

Children were unable to get to school, employers and employees alike were all unable to reach the workplaces, flights were cancelled, banks were unable to open, the PBR was at a standstill, the EMR jammed and let’s not speak about the Highways. .

The greatest however, were the images that were flooding social networks. Photos taken by the frustrated drivers held up in traffic of Police officers efficiently and meticulously doing their work by checking oil, spare tires etc. because we all know that in T&T the officers of TTPS are the most multi-talented and diverse. However, don’t mind my sarcasm. This was true; the image below is of a news report from CNC3

See didn’t I tell you they were checking every single thing?!

Let’s stray from this disaster that took place and focus on what the theme of this blog is about…. Stereotypes; this blog entry will delve into “Stereotypes attached to TTPS”

Photo: Wa Chubble is DIs
Photo: Wa Chubble is DIs

By no means are these MY PERSONAL VIEWS, the following are stereotypes I’ve heard over the past few years and the number of them that came up on my news feed during Monday’s roadblocks.

  • Police doesn’t do anything and get paid
  • Police corrupt
  • Police like too much woman
  • Police does take bribe
  • Police wotless
  • Police does wine on people for Carnival
  • Police disrespectful
  • Police like to abuse their power
  • Police slow and unresponsive to crime
  • Police afraid to go in bad man area
  • The worst man you could be with is a Police man
  • Police men are people who failed high school and getting paid more than people with degrees
  • Police were people who used to get bullied when they were younger so now they take advantage of other people

I can bet my last dollar, that you’ve at least heard 3 of these stereotypes; if not then you’re clearly not from Trinidad & Tobago or you’re a Police (no offense). However, are there truths to any of these stereotypes? Comment and let me know.

Now being as objective as I can be with the issue on Monday, the Police are in fact right for protesting for their raise of pay since they have one of the lowest paid jobs in public service as well as having the highest risk. According to the Secretary of the Police and Social Welfare Association, Michael Seales said that members have been complaining that since 2011 there has been no progress in the negotiations with the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO). Seales said the basic salary of a junior police officer was TT$5,123 (One TT dollar =US$0.16 cents) and just about TT$1,000 more in benefits. However, the manner in which they protested by holding our island under ransom caused massive losses to productivity and finances, which set the state back millions of dollars just for that one day. So yes, the police were wrong in the way they protested but they aren’t wrong for wanting a raise in pay.

If you’re a UWI student like me you would remember the strike of the OWTU, the janitors did not clean bathrooms or empty garbage for more than 2 weeks. The stench was unbearable and there was litter everywhere, garbage cans were overflowing and flies and bees were beginning to circulate.

Everyone protests in some way or the other to get what they want, this has become a norm in T&T so don’t be mad at the Police for protesting, be mad at them for holding the state as ransom. Also, don’t lose faith in them they were doing their job after all and very efficiently might I add. At the end of the day the Police are the first people we contact during emergencies and mishaps (excluding the Ambulance) so let’s work together with them instead of criticizing, give constructive criticism, they are not all bad, there are good ones out there.

Let’s just say thank God that T&TEC didn’t decide to strike

😀 :v (y)
